Marketplace Carbondale

A Community Marketplace

The larger property, of which the Carbondale Marketplace is a portion, has been the object of a search for a common planning vision for over a decade. During that period, support for a new grocery store and rental housing was commonly envisioned. It became apparent that the best way forward was to address the most immediate community needs while creating an infrastructure plan that anticipates future uses. The site is proposed to house 11 buildings with commercial and residential uses fronting the main roadways. The plan includes a diverse variety of architectural features, scale, and massing in conjunction with internal parking and a central green space. Pedestrian and bicycle access were integral to creation of the site plan and great care was taken to ensure this plan was accessible and convenient for the community.

Terraced down  the hillside, this floor plan positions the majority of living spaces along the point of the peninsula, maximizing views of the surrounding Castle Creek valley.

534 E. Cooper

Iconic Landmark

Located one block from the gondola on the highly-traveled corner of Hunter St and Cooper Avenue, is the iconic building formally known as Boogies Diner. This high-end location was an ideal space for retail and restaurant establishments. It contains over 16,000 square feet of conditioned space with 12,000 square feet divided between the ground and upper floors. The building has been designed around the majority of the existing buildings structure with heavy emphasis on minimizing the cost for the structural redesign. This building reflects the historic vernacular of the downtown core while still giving it some contemporary flair. Steel makes up the majority of the buildings ornamentation where wood would historically have been used. The percentage of glazing was maximized as much as possible for display windows and views into and out of the building. The upper level windows were increased as much as possible to allow for stunning views of the mountains surrounding the city.

Addictive Architecture

The property is situated overlooking Maroon Creek just outside of Aspen, CO. This residence’s panoramic view stretches from Hunter Creek to the Tiehack ski area. The inspiration behind the design was the ranching history of the property dating back over 100 years.  The architecture utilizes reclaimed barn wood and native stone veneer on a series of connected structures conjuring up the image of addictive architecture created over a period of time. The concept of connecting several structures also allowed the large extended family to share family spaces, while providing room and privacy for all family members.  The theme of providing both family and private spaces continues outside with 12 different terraces, decks, and landscaped areas each offering a different experience for the family.
