Woody Creek Residence

Historic Character

Nestled within an expansive and rural landscape, this secluded home draws inspiration from the timeless ranch dwellings prevalent in western Colorado. Modern glass connections seamlessly join each component, strategically positioned to capture the surrounding breathtaking vistas.

Mount Wilson Residence

Classic Mountain Retreat

This compound was designed to be a mountain retreat for the client and their family. The client did not want the residence to be large and formal, but instead a place to relax and enjoy the mountains and the views. The residence was designed to appear additive as if it had been on the site for a long time. It has the concept of something old and something new with an old appearance as you approach the house, then revealing a new take on a barn as you get closer. The guest barn is disconnected and can operate in conjunction with the main house or separate. It is created out of reclaimed barn wood and is designed to look like an old barn was always on the site.

Roaring Fork Club Cabins

An Idyllic Expansion

Nestled amidst the breathtaking landscape of aspen and spruce trees, the new Roaring Fork Cabins project is a captivating addition to The Roaring Fork Club, situated directly along the fairway of the club's renowned Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course. Evoking the charm of traditional Colorado mountain cabins, these homes feature log siding, vertical board-and-batten fir siding, true dry-stack natural fieldstone, and striking corrugated metal roofs on the exterior porches.

The project is a harmonious blend of classic mountain aesthetics and modern design principles. The 18-hole golf course and residences, initially developed in 1999, have become a hallmark of the club's commitment to excellence. Located on both the north and south sides of Highway 82, east of downtown Basalt, the new expansion focuses exclusively on the north side of the highway.

Surrounded by the serene beauty of the natural environment, the Roaring Fork Cabins offer a unique living experience that seamlessly integrates with the surrounding landscape. The cabins are not merely structures but a testament to thoughtful design, marrying the allure of the outdoors with the comfort of traditional Colorado mountain living. As the project expands the Club's footprint, it not only preserves the environmental legacy of the nationally recognized institution but also provides residents with an idyllic retreat in the heart of the Rocky Mountains

Connected with Nature

This Deer Valley mountain home quietly connects the surrounding vast and unobstructed natural world with a sophisticated, elegant – yet supremely comfortable – environment to create an entirely new level of indoor-outdoor living. The home’s private areas are housed in a series of staggered stone pavilions along the ridge while a central glass pavilion contains public spaces. Movable glass walls encourage indoor-outdoor living and spaces are arranged to provide direct access to the sloping site. The synchronized palette of materials for exterior and interior finishes, carefully selected by WRJ in collaboration with Poss, enhances the fluidity of the connection with nature.

Despite the layered beauty of the constructed elements – a veritable masterpiece of design collaboration – nature remains paramount. From raining to cloudy to sunny, the vast sky’s movement is reflected in the pool, which overlooks the reservoir, manifesting the home’s ultimate ever-changing experience of earth, water and sky.

Modern Telluride

The Sunset Ridge residence overlooks the Deep Creek Canyon, and is surrounded by a 360 degree panoramic view of the San Miguel Mountain range in Telluride, Colorado. This 12,000 sq. ft. ultra-modern residence was designed to incorporate the surround landscape by providing gorgeous vistas from every angle of the residence. The vision for this project was to create a unique home that provides inspiration and surprise with every turn, while enhancing one’s sense of wonder, when experiencing its context within its surroundings. The architectural design was profoundly inspired by its surroundings, yet makes a unique statement as a dramatic response to its environment. This is achieved by Sunset Ridge’s design of breaking away from common orthogonal geometries, incorporating soaring angular rooflines, featuring detailed limestone walls that ground the structure to the land, showcasing a dynamic steel structure, and housing ceiling to floor glass which welcomes the surrounding landscape into the experience and lifestyle of the home.

More Than a Golf Club

Navigating the natural grade along the Roaring Fork River at the top of the Rocky Mountains, this Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course is rare among private clubs. The club’s 282 acres are rich in history and memories of early settlers: of ranching and log structures. The club structures are designed to resemble their environment with large hand-hewn timbers, spacious outdoor porches and native stone chimneys. The Roaring Fork Club features 45 member’s cabins. Twenty-five of the cabins are individually owned, with the remaining twenty structured in a fractional ownership program. Each cabin also includes extensive timber framed porches to invite residents outside to sit and view the course or to enjoy an evening fire.
